Four champions crowned at Golf Association of Michigan Junior Championship
Bridget Boczar of Canton and Vighav Alokam of Ypsilanti are the inaugural 2022 Michigan Golf Association champions.
Boczar shot 5 on par 149 to win the girls’ game of the fourth GAM Junior Kickoff Championship at Washtenaw Golf Club in Ypsilanti while Alokam carded 4 on 148 to win the men’s event.
Boczar, who will play at Oakland University next season, crushed defending champion Sophie Stevens of Highland by two strokes while finishing three strokes ahead of her twin sister Grace Boczar.
“I’m excited, especially since this is the last time I could play in this tournament,” said Bridget Boczar. “The ultimate goal is to win, but I don’t always expect that. I expect to improve every season, and I’m proud to have done so in this tournament for the past three years. I had better scores each time.
Alokam, 15, finished three strokes ahead of Mitchell Strickland and four ahead of Julian Menser.
“I’m super excited,” said Alokam, who opted to play in the older General Division. “I mean, hopefully this is one of many more to come. It was tough today in the wind, but I did better than the first round.
“I had three 3-putts in the first round, but today I made a good seven footer.”
Ian Masih won the boys 15 and under division while Alena Li repeated as the champion of the girls 15 and under division.
